Meet The Cast: Mike Hamilton, 'Samuel'

2016Pirates-MikeH01This week, following her recent interviews with Mike 'The Major General' Killoran and Frankie 'Mabel' Parry, Rachel caught up with Mike Hamilton, who plays Samuel; second in command to the Pirate King himself. See what the brigand had to say for himself below...

How long have you been in Emco?

I was a member way back in 2002 but had a long break before returning for Witches of Eastwick in 2015

What is your favourite role you have played?

My favourite roles have to be Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof which I played in Exeter last year,  Fagin in Oliver which I have played twice and Julian Marsh in 42nd Street.

What is the funniest thing that has happened to you during a show/rehearsal?

Whilst playing the Dentist in Little Shop of Horrors, I got lost in the theatre when required to enter through the auditoriam.  I couldn't find my way back to the stage and left the cast having to ad lib for what seemed like an age as I panicked trying every door I could - what a way to make an entrance !!

2016Pirates-MikeH02Give a brief description of the character you are playing.

He's a PIRATE !! (think Mr Smee in Peter Pan)

What's most challenging about your role?

Not to confuse my swash with my buckle !

What do you love/hate about your character?

What's to hate - he's a PIRATE !!

What is your pre show routine?

Sleep, eat, turn up at the theatre as late as possible and attempt to be on the right side of the stage for the first entrance (not always achieved)

Pirates of Penzance runs this June, 7th to 11th, including a matinee on the Saturday. Until the end of march tickets are on offer for £2 off all adult tickets for every performance!
