About EMCo Show History Follow Us Gallery

Our weekly interview with a cast member continues with Debbie Butler, (Ruth in 'Pirates of Penzance'), as she talks about her quarter century with EMCo, unstoppable giggles and being one of the gang.

2016Pirates-DebbieHow long have you been in Emco?

Almost 25 years!

What is your favourite role you have played? Why?

Florence Vassey (CHESS) I've loved the music since I was about 16!

What is the funniest thing that has happened to you during a show/rehearsal?

There are so many but there have been a couple of severe cases of the giggles on stage at very inappropriate moments!!

2009CHESS08Give a brief description of the character you are playing.

An Old Maid!!

What would your dream role be?

Mrs Johnston in Blood Brothers

2009CHESS22What's most challenging about your role?

The's a bit high!!

What do you love/hate about your character?

Love that she becomes one of the pirate gang. Not so keen on the fact that she's 47!

2010hellodolly15What is your pre show routine?

Get the kids to bed early, hair, make up, costume, vocal warm up and try to keep calm!!!

Give a brief description of what's involved with choreographing the show

I'm choreographing a couple of the Pirates songs so I discuss what is wanted from the director, listen to the songs several times over, and try to come up with a routine that fits the bill!

What's most challenging about being the choreographer?

It is a very time consuming job and it can be tricky to come up with original moves that all the people in the numbers are capable of doing as everyone has different levels of ability!

Tell me why people should come and watch this show.

This is going to be a fun packed family show with fantastic singing, dancing and a lot of swashbuckling!
