Exmouth Musical Theatre Company is now in the thick of rehearsals for their blockbuster Autumn production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Evita”, which includes a gripping true life story and some classic Lloyd Webber songs including, Oh What a Circus, Another Suitcase in Another Hall and, of course, Don’t Cry for Me Argentina.
Competition to play the lead role of Eva Peron was fierce and casting proved to be very difficult. It was only after she was cast that director, Debra Butler, noticed the striking similarities between Jo Killoran and Evita when she stumbled across a picture of the young Evita in a biography of the legendary Argentine First Lady.
“Jo’s facial features, particularly her eyes and nose, are so similar to the real Eva Peron. Jo was cast because of her combined strengths as a singer, dancer and actor”, commented Debra. “But, back then, we were oblivious to her similarity to the real Eva. It’s an unexpected bonus when it comes to the production – which includes actual footage of the actress who went on to become the President’s wife and the people’s champion.”
Evita will be performed from Tuesday 22nd to Saturday 26th November at the Exmouth Pavilion and tickets are already available from the box office on 01395 222477 or online at www.ledtickets.co.uk.
