Our impending production 'Pirates of Penzance' has continued to gather momentum. Following last week's interview with Frankie Parry, this week Rachel Hiland spoke to 'the very model of a modern major general', Mike Killoran.
How long have you been in Emco?
Anne (my wife) and I joined Exmouth Operatic Society, which then became EMCO in 1976, so this is our 40th year.
What is your favourite role you have played? Why?
I think my favourite was Fagin because it is so iconic. Also Anne was playing Nancy and Dave (my son) was the Artful Dodger.
What is the funniest thing that has happened to you during a show/rehearsal?
Uttering a rude word on stage, I meant to say shut or shot but instead used another vowel, this caused Val Clarke and I to collapse with laughter!
Give a brief description of the character you are playing.
I am the very Model of a Modern Major General - apparently the description Model means a small imitation of the real thing.
What musical sums up your life? Why?
Fiddler on the Roof, I’ve often dreamed on being a Rich Man
What would your character use as a chat up line?
Have you ever Sat a Gee?
What's most challenging about your role?
Remembering all the words in the Patter Song
What do you love/hate about your character?
I have always enjoyed dressing up in Uniform, actually it’s been a lifetime obsession
Tell me why people should come and watch this show.
Live Theatre is really good fun! We are a good society; we have a very strong cast who will bring out all of the humour that the show has. I really believe that this is a show for all ages, with good fun, good singing and great live entertainment.
Tickets are available now for 'Broadway Pirates of Penzance' and during March the 'March Madness' ticket offer will still save you £2 off every adult ticket purchased. See ticket availability here.
